What's the deal with homemade soap anyway?
There is so much to be said on this...
Hands down, handmade soap is so much better for your skin than commercially manufactured soap for a number of reasons.
- Did you ever wash with a bar of store bought soap and realize that your skin felt like it needed extra moisture after your shower/bath and you went hunting for body lotion? Commercially manufactured soap does not contain glycerin and it tends to strip our skin of moisture. The glycerin is removed from the soap and is usually made into another sell-able product, lotion.
Handmade soap contains glycerin as it is part of the soap making process. That is why washing with a bar of handcrafted soap will always leave your skin feeling more hydrated. Glycerin is a humectant, which means it draws moisture from the surroundings and in the case of homemade soap, it draws moisture to the skin leaving your skin feeling silky smooth and soft.
- Soap makers pride themselves on using the finest quality ingredients they can in their soaps. When we handcraft our soap, we choose our ingredients for the benefits those ingredients can bring to our skin. This applies to oils, butters, colors, and fragrances. We do love a fabulous smelling bar of soap here at Solitude Soapworks and we use both essential oils and phthalate free fragrance oils. Our soaps are colored with natural and lab created colorants, so there is something for everyone.
- Homemade soap is unique product. Unlike commercial brands, where each bar is identical to the last, each bar of soap made by an artisan soap maker will be one of a kind. Soap making artistry is part chemistry, part alchemy.
Your skin will thank you.
