Over the last 18 years, I have donated to various charities, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Make a Wish Foundation, Boots on the Ground NY (a local Long Island not for profit, that assists Veterans). I have donated to and raised money for the American Society for Suicide Prevention (that one is VERY close to my heart).
Last year, I was approached about donating some of my soap products for several local silent auction fundraisers and I put together several baskets and went about my business. It got me thinking about other ways that I could help.
I came up with the idea of one special product a month, of which 50% of the proceeds will be donated to charity. February's Charity is www.hopeformiracles.org
Please read more about them here.
This particular charity raises money for Neuroblastoma research. Karson Hull is an 8 year old with Neuroblastoma and he's an amazing kid, I know Karson and his family and it pulls at my heartstrings when I talk with his mother about Karson, his story and the lack of research money that goes to children's cancer (it's 4% or less). I can't imagine being in her shoes.
I chose Hope for Miracles, not only because of the personal connection, but because every child should have a fighting chance.
